Byte Knights is a club on campus for Information Technology. Recently, the club organizers Derek O’Hanlon, senior and president; Nicholas Viviano, senior and secretary; and Andrew Shultis, senior and treasurer, all came together to host a Web Development workshop for all Mount students.
Many Mount students came to the event and learned how to design and develop websites using specific technology like HTML and CSS. In today’s society we use computers heavily for businesses and such, so being able to use these technologies is an advantage.
The club officers plan to organize and host similar events for students to come to learn more about the web and become just as advanced as an IT student.
In addition to this workshop, Byte Knights also hosts a the Mobile Application development workshop, teaches coding to students at Newburgh Armory, organizes field trips to New Public Radio and IBM, and invites guest speakers from IT industry.

At Mount Saint Mary College, there are many clubs that help to give back to the community. One such club is Habitat for Humanity. The Mount Saint Mary College chapter of Habitat for Humanity has done a lot to give back to communities over the years and continues to grow with more student involvement each year. The president, Katie Hertlein, is a senior this year and has been running the club for 3 years now.
Katie spoke about how the club gives back to Newburgh. “We work with Habitat For Humanity of Greater Newburgh. This organization has allowed us to come on worksites which we attend on Saturdays, working alongside the organization. Many houses have been worked on by our Habitat group. In the spring is an annual Walk for Housing which takes you around the streets where Habitat houses have been completed, or are currently being worked on.” Continue Reading
The month of October is in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. A club on campus that helps those with cancer is Love Your Melon. To this day the organization and many colleges, including the Mount, have given 149,738 beanies to children battling cancer. Love Your Melon does not only give beanies out to children, however; they also give 50% of their profits to non-profit organizations that benefit childhood cancers. Continue Reading
